History of Motley Morris

In 1981, several members of local Cotswold Morris teams decided to perform dances from the Welsh Borders on an occasional basis. They called themselves "Dartford Motley" after the town where practices were held.  The name soon changed to "Motley Morris".

We practice from October to April and then dance “out” from May to September. Apart from festivals, pubs and private functions we have also been on TV quite a lot.  These appearances include Midsummer Murders, This Morning and various childrens programmes

As custodians of Rochester Sweeps Festival’s 'Jack in the Green' we wake him on Bluebell Hill at 5.32 on May Day & escort him on the bank holiday Monday procession
